A conveyor that will not start when the operator presses the button holds up everything behind it. A food processing factory faced exactly that with the electrical control panel running its conveyor system and associated production equipment.
The factory needed the control system checked and working before normal production could continue. Jarlam Electrics was engaged to diagnose the industrial control panel, fix the fault and confirm the system was safe to run.
Background
The factory required an electrical control panel to operate a conveyor system and associated production equipment. The panel needed to let operators start and stop machinery safely and reliably during production.
In food processing, a reliable control panel matters. When start/stop controls do not respond as expected, operators cannot run the line with confidence.
The Problem: A Control Circuit That Would Not Respond
- The conveyor failed to start when the operator pressed the start button.
- The control circuit was not operating consistently.
- Incorrect or loose wiring could cause equipment malfunction and production downtime.
- The factory needed the control system checked before normal production could continue.
The Solution: Control Panel Troubleshooting
Reviewing The Electrical Drawings
The work started with the electrical drawings, to identify the relevant control circuit before touching the panel.
Safe Isolation
The electrical supply was isolated and the workplace lockout/tagout procedure was followed.
Inspecting The Panel Components
The team inspected:
- Wiring and terminal connections
- Contactors
- Overload protection
- Control devices
Diagnosing And Fixing The Fault
Suitable test equipment was used to diagnose the control circuit fault. The faulty wiring connection was corrected, and any defective components identified during testing were replaced.
Testing Before Handover
- Checked the operation of the start/stop controls and protective devices.
- Tested the system under controlled conditions and confirmed the conveyor operated correctly.
- Recorded the maintenance work and communicated the results to the supervisor.
The Outcome
The control panel operated correctly, improving production reliability and reducing the risk of further unplanned stoppages.
